On 1st October 2026 a group of 25 children from Parambe Estate in the Kegalle Region and 24 children from Doloswella Estate in the Ratnapura Region had the opportunity to take part in a Children’s Day programme organized by the Institute of Chartered Professional Managers of Sri Lanka (CPM Sri Lanka) in collaboration with the Plantation Human Development Trust (PHDT).
As part of the programme Pan Asia Banking Corporation PLC sponsored Special Savings Accounts for all children encouraging them to develop saving habits and think about their future. The children were also presented with school bags and educational packs which added an memorable touch to the celebration. Following the opening programme the children enjoyed an educational visit to the Colombo Harbour, where they had the opportunity to see the harbour operations and explore a Sri Lanka Navy ship from 9.30 a.m. To 12.30 p.m. The visit gave them an opportunity to experience places and activities that are not part of their everyday lives. Then the children visited Lake House, where they were introduced to the work of the press and gained an insight into the process of newspaper printing and publishing. This provided them with a valuable educational experience and helped them understand how news and information reach the public. In the evening they travelled to Colombo Port City, where they enjoyed team games and various recreational activities by the beach.
The children actively participated in the games enjoyed spending time together and created happy memories with their friends. The programme provided the children not with an enjoyable Children’s Day celebration but also with opportunities for learning, exposure, friendship and personal development.
